How they got the name

On the battlefields of France during WWI, the Marines were given the nick name of Tufelshunde, meaning “they were Devil Dogs” by the German soldiers because of their tenacity and courage at the battle of Belleau Woods in June of 1918.  The fifth and sixth regiments were the spearhead of the Allied counter attack against the grey uniformed crack unit of the German army considered the best in the world at that time.

The Alabama Pack

The Alabama Pack of the Military Order of Devil Dogs is made up of five (5) Pounds scattered throughout the State.  After each quarterly meeting of the Marine Corps League, the Pack Leader conducts a “Pack Growl” that encompasses all five Pounds.  At the Marine Corps League Department Convention, a “Grand Growl” is conducted at which time officer elections are held and the new officers are installed.
